Deer Decorative Wood Slab Plaque with Knot on Bottom - $129.95

ID: 0015

These decorative slabs are made of balsam poplar. The laser engraved wood pen and ink drawings represent original work by Maine artists. The attention to detail is second to none.

These balsam poplar wood slabs will make extremely unique gifts to people you care about. The wood is sprayed with two coats of clear acrylic before the laser produces the life-like works of art. After the laser work has been completed the images are hand painted. After the paint has dried two more coats of clear acrylic are sprayed on.

Each slab comes with a slot in the back so they can be hung on the wall.

If you would like to have your own logo just furnish us with the logo or picture and we will get you a quotation. There is a minimum of 10 units to do any custom work. These slabs would be great fundraisers with your groups name on them. Please allow 2 to 3 months for completion.

The balsam poplars — also known as Populus sect. Tacamahaca  — are a group of about 10 species of poplars, indigenous to North America and eastern Asia, distinguished by the balsam scent of their buds, the whitish undersides of their leaves, and the leaf petiole being round in cross-section. They are large deciduous  trees, 30–60 m tall, with leaves with a rounded base, pointed apex, and a whitish waxy coating on the underside of the leaf; this latter distinguishes them from most other poplars. The name is derived from the pleasant balsam smell of the opening buds and leaves in spring, produced by a sticky gum on the buds which also helps protect the buds from insect damage. The balsam poplars are light-demanding trees that require considerable moisture but are tolerant of very cold conditions.
